Tinotenda Hove – The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has confirmed it is engaged in ongoing discussions with the ruling ZANU PF over the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, raising fresh debate over the direction of Zimbabwe’s governance.

According to party insiders, the talks—described as sensitive and largely behind closed doors—are part of broader efforts by political actors to find common ground on key national issues.

However, the secrecy surrounding the engagements has already sparked concern among observers.

A senior CCC official confirmed the development, saying, “We are engaging in discussions around Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 as part of efforts to address national concerns and ensure all perspectives are considered.”

Government sources also revealed over the weekend that discussions are indeed underway, although details remain tightly guarded. One official familiar with the matter said, “There are ongoing engagements between key political stakeholders, and while nothing has been finalised, dialogue is taking place.”

At the centre of the controversy is Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, which critics argue seeks to extend the term of Emmerson Mnangagwa beyond 2028. This has triggered intense political debate, with some viewing the proposed changes as necessary reforms, while others see them as a potential threat to constitutionalism.

A political analyst weighed in, warning, “Any attempt to alter presidential term limits must be approached with extreme caution, as it has far-reaching implications for democracy and public trust.”

While both parties have not publicly disclosed the full scope of the negotiations, insiders suggest the talks may also touch on broader electoral and governance reforms.

As discussions continue, the nation watches closely, with many Zimbabweans demanding transparency. “The public deserves to know what is being discussed in their name,” said a civic society representative.

The outcome of these engagements could significantly shape Zimbabwe’s political landscape in the years ahead, particularly as debate intensifies over the future of presidential term limits and constitutional reforms.
