Tinotenda Hove – Bulawayo activist Mbuso Fuzwayo from the civic group Ibhetshu Likazulu has filed a case at the Constitutional Court seeking to block the ruling Zanu PF party’s alleged plans to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028.
In his application submitted on Thursday, Fuzwayo lists Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, Attorney General Virginia Mabiza, and President Mnangagwa as respondents.
He argues that Zanu PF’s 2024 conference resolution advocating for Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030 violates the country’s Constitution, which restricts a president to two terms.
Fuzwayo is asking the court to stop any attempt to tamper with the Constitution, saying such manoeuvres would erode democracy and the rule of law in Zimbabwe.
