Harare – Blessed Geza, a revered and controversial figure who became a symbol of resistance challenging the status quo, died Friday, his family confirmed.
His family, who shared a final, impassioned message he dictated from his deathbed—a call to action that is already reverberating across the nation.
Geza, rose to prominence during the liberation struggle and later became a persistent, critical voice against government corruption and economic mismanagement, advocating for democratic reforms and social justice.
His final words, released to the public hours after his death, are being treated as a political testament. In them, he directly addresses the citizens of Zimbabwe, urging perseverance and collective action.
“I have always fought not for personal gain, but for you. I am old and have played my part. It is time you play yours,” the message states, framing the struggle as a generational baton-pass.
The document strikes a balance between acknowledging profound hardship and insisting on hope. “Your struggles are my struggles,” it reads, before envisioning “a Zimbabwe where every child can dream, where every parent can work with dignity, and where our resources are shared equally.”
Analysts suggest the message is meticulously crafted to galvanize a population grappling with a severe economic crisis, high unemployment, and political fatigue. Its language avoids direct partisan affiliation, instead appealing to a broad desire for change.
“Do not let fear engulf you; let it fuel your resolve,” Geza urges. “We have fought too hard and lost too much to turn back now.”
Zimbabweans took to social media to mourn Geza and offer their condolence message.
However, reactions from the public are polarized. Supporters are mourning a fearless champion, gathering at vigils in major cities where his message is being read aloud. Critics however, have historically dismissed him as a destabilizing figure.
The concluding lines of his message reinforce its solemn, legacy-defining purpose: “Even as I prepare to leave this world, I do so with the conviction that our struggle continues… Our victory is not a distant dream; it is within our grasp.”
Geza’s physical presence is gone, but his final words ensure his voice will be remembered in Zimbabwe’s simmering political discourse for the foreseeable future.
