Tinotenda Hove- An eight-month-old baby has died after being attacked by a Rottweiler in Glen View, Harare, in an incident that also left two other people with serious injuries.

The tragedy occurred in the Riverside area of Glen View 7. The deceased has been identified as Tayana Nyandoro, who was reportedly in her mother’s arms at the time of the attack.

According to her mother, Rosemary Madzinga (43), she was at home breastfeeding her baby when she noticed her former domestic worker, Varaidzo Gumboreshumba (26), passing by and invited her into the yard.

It was during that visit that the dog reportedly attacked Varaidzo after she entered the premises.

As neighbours gathered following the commotion, the dog allegedly turned on a two-year-old boy, Kupakwashe Gambo, who was among the onlookers.

Both Varaidzo and the toddler sustained severe head injuries and are currently admitted at Sally Mugabe Hospital where they are said to be in serious condition.

Tayana suffered fatal injuries after the dog attacked her.

Police have confirmed the incident and the arrest of the dog owner.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said a 48-year-old Glen View man had been taken into custody in connection with the death and injuries.

He said preliminary records indicated the dog had been vaccinated on May 13, with the vaccination valid for one year.

The dog’s owner, John Nyandoro (48), is facing culpable homicide charges.

SPCA inspectors who attended the scene recommended that the animal be put down.

The incident adds to a growing list of fatal dog attacks recorded this year.

In a separate case last month, a 39-year-old man was found dead in Kadoma after suspected stray dogs mauled him. His body was discovered on August 22, 2026, at an open area near Plot 104, Sabonabona, Eiffel Flats, with his clothes torn and multiple bite wounds.
