Harare – Former opposition legislator and activist Job Sikhala has issued a defiant call to action, vowing to organize against what he termed the “mutilation of our constitution” and stating that his movement will not be diverted by its critics.
In a statement released on Thursday, Sikhala positioned his group as the sole defenders of Zimbabwe’s founding charter, outlining his resolve to defend the mutilation of the Constitution.
“Let the nonsense of our resolve to organise ourselves against the mutilation of our constitution be our guiding principle,” Sikhala declared.
The statement signals a continued and perhaps intensified campaign of political activism from Sikhala, a prominent figure known for his frequent arrests and fierce criticism of the government. His words suggest a strategic shift towards a more singular focus on constitutional issues, which he frames as the “elephant in the room.”
He explicitly dismissed concerns about opposing viewpoints, stating his group would not be “obsessed about what other people or entities do or think about us.” This suggests a refusal to engage in political debates outside his core agenda.
“Never shall we be concerned about what those who hold their contrary views and positions against us divert our focus,” the statement read.
Furthermore, Sikhala sought to frame the struggle in patriotic terms, asserting, “We are driven by our passion for the love of our country. We are focused brethren!!!”
The statement comes following notification of a press statement where opposition political stalwarts have indicated that they are uniting to defend the country’s constitutional crisis, with a focus on the proposed extension of the President’s term and alleged government corruption. A concurrent press conference is set to be held in Bulawayo
