Tinotenda Hove – The Action Democratic Movement (ADM) has delivered a powerful and emotive call for unity, courage and national renewal, urging Zimbabweans to reject despair and recommit themselves to rebuilding the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday, ADM president A. Nyamande said the country can no longer afford to accept hardship as normal, declaring that “Zimbabwe has no choice but to do better.”

Nyamande opened the address with a rallying appeal for collective awakening, saying: “We must dissent from indifference. We must dissent from apathy. We must dissent from fear, hatred and mistrust.”

He emphasised that this dissent was not rooted in hostility but in patriotism and hope. “Our dissent is not born of anger alone — it is born of love for our nation and hope for our people,” he said. “We dissent because we believe Zimbabwe can do better.”

The ADM leader said ordinary citizens have endured unbearable burdens for far too long, noting that “mothers go to bed hungry so their children can eat” while young people “walk miles for opportunities that never come.” He added that elders who once built the nation are now “surviving on memories instead of dignity.”

“This is not the Zimbabwe we were promised. It is not the Zimbabwe we deserve,” Nyamande said.

Despite these challenges, he insisted that the nation’s future remains unwritten and its potential intact. “Our story is not over,” he said, stressing that true transformation begins within communities. “Change does not start in parliaments. Change starts in hearts. Change starts in homes.”

He urged citizens to reject division and fear, stating: “Zimbabwe will rise when Zimbabweans rise together — without tribalism, without hate, without fear.”

Calling for renewed commitment to national priorities, Nyamande said Zimbabweans must “rebuild our schools, restore our hospitals, protect our children and honour our elders.” He added that the country’s greatest resource is not its minerals but its people.

“The task ahead is not easy. But it is possible — because our greatest resource is our people,” he said.

Concluding the statement, the ADM president issued a bold declaration of intent: “A new dawn is not a dream. A new dawn is a decision. And today, we decide — Zimbabwe will do better.”
