Harare — Controversial Zimbabwean businessman and socialite Sir Wicknell Chivhayo has gifted Rev. Dr. Nelly Gwatidzo a brand new 2026 Toyota Fortuner GD6 2.4d and US$10,000 cash, praising her evangelical work and her alignment with First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Angel of Hope Foundation.

Chivhayo, known for flamboyant giveaways to politicians, clerics and entertainers, announced the donation in a social media post on Wednesday, describing the AFM Church reverend as an “exceptional woman of God” whose ministry has spread across inter-denominational boundaries worldwide.

“Please go and see Victor at Exquisite Car Dealership and collect your brand new 2026 Toyota Fortuner GD6 2.4d that has been fully paid for,” Chivhayo wrote. “You will also receive US$10,000 for your fuel and as a small token of appreciation for the extraordinary work you continue to do with Angel of Hope, the Kingdom of God and society in general.”

The businessman specifically cited Rev. Gwatidzo’s work empowering the girl child, noting that her efforts “perfectly dovetail with the remarkable vision and humanitarian efforts of our beloved First Lady, Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa.”

Chivhayo, who has previously faced legal scrutiny over fraud and money laundering allegations — charges he has denied — has built a public persona around luxury spending and high-profile philanthropy. His past beneficiaries include ruling ZANU-PF politicians, gospel musicians, and even opposition figures, a pattern critics describe as a form of performative influence-buying.

Neither Rev. Gwatidzo nor the Angel of Hope Foundation had issued a response by the time of publication. Chivhayo’s post concluded with a Shona phrase: “Hamuzofe makafamba netsoka futi” — “You will never walk on foot again.”

The gift is the latest in a series of high-value donations by the businessman, who remains a polarising figure in Zimbabwe’s social and political landscape.
