Tinotenda Hove – Zimbabwe is facing a sharp rise in malaria cases, with infections climbing to 65,000 so far this year, a government source has revealed.
The alarming increase has intensified concerns about the country’s struggling healthcare system, with experts warning that the situation could deteriorate further if urgent action is not taken.
A Health Ministry official said last week, “The rapid increase in malaria cases is deeply concerning and reflects broader challenges within Zimbabwe’s health system.”
Public health specialists have also expressed unease over the trend, cautioning that the spike in infections may signal a looming crisis.
One health expert warned, “If this trajectory continues, Zimbabwe could be heading toward a public health catastrophe, especially in vulnerable communities with limited access to treatment and prevention measures.”
The surge has prompted renewed calls for strengthened disease control efforts, improved access to medical care, and increased investment in the health sector to prevent further escalation.
