Tinotenda Hove – John Basera, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, has directed local authorities across the country to purchase copies of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s revised and translated biography, A Life of Sacrifice.
In a circular dated March 31, 2026, addressed to town clerks, town secretaries and chief executive officers, Basera highlighted the importance of the book and encouraged widespread procurement by local institutions.
“Purchase of the biography of His Excellency, the President Dr E.D. Mnangagwa’s; ‘A Life of Sacrifice’ by local authorities,” reads part of the directive.
Basera reminded officials that the biography was first launched in 2021 at State House and has now been updated. “As you may be aware, ‘A Life of Sacrifice’, the biography of His Excellency, the President, Dr E.D. Mnangagwa was launched in 2021 at State House,” he wrote.
He further noted that a new edition had been produced in 2026 by the official author and publisher, Jarach Media, and translated into multiple local languages. “Accordingly, a revised and translated version has been produced in 2026 by the official author and publisher, Jarach Media. The latest edition is translated into Shona, Ndebele and Tonga,” Basera stated.
According to the letter, the publisher is seeking support from both institutions and individuals to purchase the book, which is intended for distribution in schools and communities.
“In view of the foregoing, the publisher is appealing for the purchase of the book by various individuals and institutions and the same to be distributed to schools,” Basera said.
He described the biography as significant in understanding the President’s life journey. “The biography provides a close insight into the life and journey of one of Zimbabwe’s illustrious sons,” he added.
The pricing structure was also outlined in the communication, with individual copies selling at US$17, while bulk purchases of 100 or more copies would cost US$15 each.
Each copy is selling at “USD$17.00,” with “an order of 100 copies or more” qualifying for “the discounted price of USD$15.00 per copy,” the letter states.
Basera concluded by urging compliance from local authorities. “In this regard, you are implored to make the necessary arrangements to procure this invaluable book for the benefit of your communities. Be guided accordingly.”
