Johannesburg — The African Federation (TAF) on Wednesday formally transitioned from policy research to ground-level implementation, announcing its first global conference aimed at building what it calls a “superpower Africa” by 2050.
The virtual gathering, scheduled for May 20, 2026, marks a strategic escalation for the pan-African organisation, which seeks to fill a leadership vacuum left by the post-colonial era. Operating as a single coordinated global entity, TAF is mobilising six core Focus Units covering Economy, Environment, Governance, FutureTech, Narrative and Wellness.
“We are not gathering to debate or agonise about what Africa needs,” said Elisabeth Valerio, Chief Executive Officer of The African Federation, in a statement. “We are gathering to organise and implement what Africa must build. The era of the spectator is over.”
The announcement comes at a time when African nations continue to grapple with external influence over natural resources, debt restructuring, and security architecture. TAF positions itself as a primary architect of African sovereignty, calling on professionals, leaders and the diaspora to align around a unified vision.
Valerio emphasised a break from symbolic gestures. “Africa’s progress will be determined by those prepared to move beyond rhetoric and commit to the disciplined work of building institutions, strengthening partnerships, and coordinating action across the continent,” she said.
The Zoom conference is set for Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 18:00 GMT (19:00 WAT, 20:00 CAT, 21:00 EAT). Registration is open via TAF’s website.
The organisation, founded on principles of inter-African cooperation and pan-Africanism, aims to restore continental unity, prosperity and sovereignty, with a stated goal of achieving superpower status “for the many rather than the few” by 2050.
