Tinotenda Hove- Opposition legislator Gladys Hlatywayo says she remains determined to oppose the controversial CAB3 Bill, declaring that resistance against the proposed law will continue despite growing divisions within the opposition ranks.
Speaking after staging a walkout during the CAB3 debate yesterday, Hlatywayo said lawmakers opposed to the Bill were prepared to continue challenging it alongside ordinary Zimbabweans.
“We are going to fight to the bitter end,” said Hlatywayo.
The outspoken MP also defended her decision not to criticise CCC proportional representation legislator Samantha Mureyani for backing the Bill, arguing that elected constituency representatives carry a different level of accountability to voters.
“I do not blame her,”
Hlatywayo said. “She is a proportional representation member and has nothing to lose, unlike some of us who were elected directly by the people and have a duty to reflect the views and concerns of our constituents.”
Hlatywayo maintained that MPs elected by communities have an obligation to protect the interests of the citizens who voted them into office, adding that many Zimbabweans had already expressed strong opposition to CAB3.
