Harare- The Environmental Management Agency (EMA), in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, has formally released the Draft Zimbabwe National Environmental Plan for public scrutiny and comment.
The move initiates a critical phase of public participation in shaping the country’s overarching environmental policy. The plan is intended to establish a comprehensive national strategy for environmental protection, conservation, and climate resilience.
A statement from the agencies called on citizens, experts, civil society organizations, and the private sector to “be part of the process” by reviewing the draft document and submitting formal feedback. The plan’s contents, which have been shared in a link issued in the notice, will now face evaluation from a broad cross-section of stakeholders.
Interested parties can access the full draft plan through a direct download link or a QR code provided by the agencies. The document is also accessible via the EMA’s official website at www.ema.co.zw.
All comments must be submitted via the dedicated email address: epm@ema.co.zw. The announcement did not specify a deadline for the submission of comments, a detail likely to be sought by potential contributors.
The development of a National Environmental Plan comes amid growing global and local pressure to address environmental degradation, climate change impacts, and sustainable natural resource management. The outcome of this consultative process will be closely watched by environmental advocates and development partners.
The government has urged widespread participation, using the hashtag #NationalPlan, to ensure the final policy reflects a national consensus on environmental priorities.
