Shurugwi – The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has officially approved the 2026 budget for the Shurugwi Town Council, paving the way for the local authority to begin its fiscal operations for the year.

In a correspondence addressed to Town Clerk Archibald Ncube on Thursday, Permanent Secretary for Local Government and Public Works, Dr. John Basera, confirmed that the Minister had greenlit the financial plan in accordance with Section 47 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act (Chapter 22:19).

The approval grants the council the legal mandate to implement its revenue and expenditure proposals for the year. However, the Ministry signaled that it would maintain close oversight of the council’s financial activities.

“The Ministry will continue to monitor implementation of the budget during the course of the year,” Dr. Basera stated in the letter.

The directive, released from the Office of the Secretary in Harare, also instructed the town council to adhere to the stipulated guidelines. Copies of the approval were circulated to the Acting Provincial Director for Local Government Services and the District Development Coordinator for further action and oversight.
