Tinotenda Hove – The bail hearing for Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, youngest son of the late former president Robert Mugabe, has been deferred to Thursday at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court in Johannesburg, South Africa.

His co-accused, Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze, will also appear on the same day.
The postponement was granted to allow the defence team additional time to examine outstanding documents from the prosecution before proceedings move forward.

Mugabe, 28, and Matonhodze, 33, are facing three charges: attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from an incident on 19 February at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park, where the pair allegedly shot a 23-year-old gardener in the back. The victim, said to be employed at the property, suffered injuries during the alleged altercation.
Questions remain over Mugabe’s entry into South Africa, amid uncertainty surrounding his legal status in the country.

Both accused men are scheduled to formally submit their bail applications on Thursday. The court will then decide whether they will be granted bail while awaiting trial.
