Tinotenda Hove – Two well-known soccer players have been arrested in a shocking drug trafficking bust, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed on Monday.

According to a police statement, the players — Tumai Matsika, also known as Abas Amidu (29), and Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga (41) — were apprehended along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway on October 3, 2025. The duo was allegedly found in possession of 750 kilograms of dagga, with an estimated street value of USD75,000, hidden inside a silver Honda Shuttle bearing registration number AGP 6776.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of soccer players Tumai Matsika, also known as Abas Amidu, and Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga for drug trafficking,” police said in the statement. “They were found with 750kg of dagga valued at USD75,000 in a silver Honda Shuttle.”

In a related operation, the police also arrested Prosper Mphofu (48) at the Trabablas Interchange after he allegedly received a parcel containing 60kg of dagga worth USD6,000 from another vehicle.

Authorities say investigations are underway to determine whether the suspects are part of a larger drug trafficking network operating along major highways.

Police have since urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to drug movements, reiterating that the law will take its course regardless of a suspect’s social standing.
