Tinotenda Hove – Concerned parents in Chiredzi have raised alarm over reports that some vendors are allegedly mixing drugs and harmful substances into snacks sold to schoolchildren.

Parents who spoke to Hevoi FM, a Masvingo-based radio station, expressed deep concern that the trend is contributing to the growing problem of drug and substance abuse among learners.

One parent said, “We are worried because our children are buying snacks every day at school, but some of these could be laced with drugs. It’s destroying their lives.”

Another parent called for stricter monitoring of vendors operating near schools, adding that “the authorities must take action before this gets out of hand.”

Community members have urged law enforcement and education officials to investigate the allegations and protect schoolchildren from exposure to harmful substances disguised as treats.
