Tinotenda Hove – The Action Democratic Movement (ADM) has issued a strong message to citizens, with party leader Alice Nyamande urging Zimbabweans to reclaim the nation’s future and restore the promise of Independence.
In a statement released on Thursday titled Message to the People of Zimbabwe, Nyamande reflected on the country’s journey since 1980 and delivered a blunt assessment of the nation’s current state.
Nyamande said: “My fellow Zimbabweans, in 1980 we were handed the keys to Independence — not as a gift, but as the victory of a people who fought, bled, sacrificed, and dreamed of a nation built on dignity, freedom, and opportunity.”
She said many citizens were now asking a painful question about the country’s direction.
Nyamande added: “We look around and see factories silent, youths unemployed, elders struggling, and families surviving on crumbs in a land overflowing with resources. This is not the Zimbabwe we fought for. This is not the Zimbabwe we deserve.”
Despite the hardships, Nyamande insisted that the nation’s hope was not lost.
“Zimbabwe is not dead. Zimbabwe is wounded — and wounds can heal. Our nation is not ashes — it is a fire waiting to rise again when the people choose leadership rooted in service, justice, transparency, and love for the nation,” she said.
The ADM leader urged the public to recognise the crossroads the nation now faces.
“One path continues the cycle of broken promises and lost potential. The other path leads to rebuilding, accountability, jobs, functioning institutions, and a Zimbabwe where every citizen can live with dignity,” she stated.
Nyamande called for courage, unity, and responsible leadership.
“We must choose leaders who serve the people, not themselves. We must choose policies that open doors for all, not opportunities for a few,” she said.
She emphasised that Zimbabweans have the power to shape their future.
“Zimbabweans, hear me clearly: Our struggle is not a sign of failure — it is a call to rise. The power to rebuild this country has always been in your hands. We are a strong, intelligent, resourceful nation,” she said.
Nyamande concluded with a message of hope.
“Let us unite, let us rebuild, and let us restore the Zimbabwe we were promised in 1980 — a Zimbabwe where every citizen has a fair chance to live, work, and dream again. The future is not lost. The future is waiting for us to claim it.”
The statement was signed by ADM President A. Nyamande.
