Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of Vengesai Jabulani Mutasa (41), who is accused of fatally shooting Constable Courage Muchechesi at ZRP Sanyati early Sunday morning.
In a statement issued by Police Chief Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations), Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the ZRP described the incident as “a callous and brutal shooting.”
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Vengesai Jabulani Mutasa (41) after the callous and brutal shooting to death of Constable Courage Muchechesi at ZRP Sanyati early today,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
Police investigations revealed that before killing Constable Muchechesi, Mutasa had shot Detective Constable Ngwenya of the CID Homicide section, who was part of a team attempting to arrest him in connection with the murder of businessman Joseph Mutangadura in August 2025.
After the shooting, the suspect allegedly robbed a civilian, identified as Abraham Mayavo (30), of USD5 while Mayavo was in the process of making a report at the police station.
Commissioner Nyathi commended residents for their swift action, saying, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends members of the public in Sanyati, Kadoma, Chakari and Patchway who quickly mobilized and assisted to effect an arrest on the suspect.”
Police say further details about the ongoing investigations will be released in due course.
