Mnangagwa Fires Mines Minister Winston Chitando in Sudden Shake-Up

Tinotenda Hove – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday unexpectedly dismissed longtime ally Winston Chitando from his position as Minister of Mines and Mining Development, bringing his tenure to an abrupt end.

According to a statement issued by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, the decision was executed under the authority of Section 340, read together with Section 108 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. Dr Rushwaya noted that the move was fully within the President’s constitutional powers.

Mnangagwa swiftly replaced Chitando, appointing Polite Kambamura as the new Minister of Mines and Mining Development.

The change is effective immediately, marking yet another rapid adjustment within the cabinet.
