Chitungwiza- An estimated 15,000 Presidential Christmas food hampers were distributed to residents in Chitungwiza this week, under a charity initiative funded by prominent businessman and Zanu PF Central Committee member Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

The distribution fulfills a pledge Tagwirei made last month during a Zanu PF Zone 1 inter-district meeting.
Presented as a philanthropic gesture for the holiday season, the event drew thousands of Chitungwiza residents to distribution centres at Seke 3 Primary and Seke 3 High Schools.
The Chitungwiza hamper distribution is one part of a larger series of donations from Tagwirei.
Following the announcement of the donation, a section of netizens took to social media dismissing the pledge as wishful thinking.
Party statements and local contributions to the Zone 1 constituency also include financial injection of US$200,000 described as an “empowerment fund, a donation of 80 boreholes and a separate donation of 12,500 family food hampers made jointly with his wife.
A Celebration
The distribution was celebrated by ZANU PF structures as a direct benefit to the community. A Facebook post by The Harare Times framed it as the fulfillment of a commitment to the people. Similarly, other social media groups praised the initiative, with one labeling it “The President’s Christmas Miracle”.
Dr. Tagwirei is a billionaire businessman and a member of the ZANU PF Central Committee. He is frequently described as one of Zimbabwe’s most influential tycoons, with interests in energy and mining.
His philanthropic and political donations are often large-scale.
While critics have argued that his donations are only politically motivated, Dr Tagwirei has empowered Zimbabwenas through his philanthropic work.
