Tinotenda Hove – A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer has been arrested after he was allegedly caught transporting large quantities of illegal drugs at a roadblock near the Bubi River.

The officer, identified only as Mushava, a detective constable, was intercepted while driving through the checkpoint. A search of his vehicle uncovered a significant haul of mbanje along with boxes of cough syrup.

In an attempt to evade arrest, Mushava reportedly told the officers manning the roadblock that the consignment consisted of chicken cuts. When that explanation failed, he allegedly tried to bribe his colleagues with US$200, an offer they turned down.

A thorough search of the vehicle later revealed seven bales of mbanje and twelve boxes of cough syrup, leading to his immediate arrest.
