Tinotenda Hove – Eight people have died following a road crash between Gokwe and Kwekwe in the early hours of Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed.

According to a police statement, a Trip Trans bus with 36 passengers on board attempted to overtake another vehicle and hit an oncoming haulage truck.

“The accident occurred at around 5 am at the 110-kilometre mark along the Gokwe–Kwekwe Road, heading towards Kwekwe,” the ZRP said.

The incident comes only two days after another collision on the Harare–Bulawayo highway claimed six lives on Monday.

Police reported that a Honda Fit collided head-on with a haulage truck at the 223-kilometre peg near the Redcliff turn-off at 5:45 pm on 25 May 2026.

On Saturday, eight members of the Roman Catholic Church also died when a Toyota Noah veered off the Deka River Bridge near Hwange.

The group was returning from overnight prayers at St John’s Makwa Mission when the vehicle struck the bridge’s concrete barriers and overturned at about 7 am.
