Tinotenda Hove- Justice Charles Hungwe has been appointed President of the Court of Appeal in a major reorganisation of Zimbabwe’s superior courts.

The judicial changes will also see three High Court judges — Justices Tawanda Chitapi, Happias Zhou and Joseph Mafusire — elevated to the Supreme Court bench.

Justice Hungwe formally assumed his new position after taking the oath of office before Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza at the Constitutional Court.

His appointment follows the completion of his recent judicial assignment in Lesotho, where he served on secondment under the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Justice Chitapi was also sworn into his new position, while Justice Mavangira took his oath after being elevated from the Supreme Court to the Constitutional Court.

The two judges had missed an earlier swearing-in ceremony because they were outside the country on official duties.

The latest appointments represent a significant reshuffle of Zimbabwe’s senior judiciary, with judges moving into new roles across the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and Constitutional Court.
