HARARE – The Zimbabwean Cabinet has approved an immediate review of minimum wages for domestic workers and workers in unclassified operations, with the new wage structure taking effect immediately, Information from the 19th Post Cabinet Brief confirmed Tuesday.

The minimum wage for workers in unclassified operations has been pegged at US$270, payable in local currency, while domestic workers will now earn a minimum of US$90. The review, presented by Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Edgar Moyo, follows recommendations from the tripartite Wages and Salaries Advisory Council (WASC) in terms of Section 19 of the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01].

Under the new structure, yard workers and gardeners will receive US$90, cooks and housekeepers US$99, child, disabled and aged minders US$108, while those with Red Cross Certificates will earn US$117.

The review covers workers not covered by National Employment Councils and comes as government moves to formalise conditions of employment for some of the country’s most vulnerable workers.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa chaired the Nineteenth Cabinet Meeting, where the wage review was among several key issues considered and approved.

The development follows the government’s broader labour reform agenda, with Cabinet also approving the hosting of the Zimbabwe Tripartite Negotiating Forum Global Summit on Inclusive Growth, Decent Work, Beneficiation and Investment Promotion scheduled for 21-25 September 2026 at Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls.

In other decisions, Cabinet noted progress on the 1st 100-Day Cycle projects, with 143 of 242 projects completed. Masvingo Province was approved to host the 47th Independence Anniversary Celebrations and 2027 Children’s Party at Rutenga Growth Point in Mwenezi District.

The government also approved Memoranda of Understanding with China’s Hunan Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention on malaria control, Kenya on health cooperation, and Ghana on agriculture cooperation.

The 34th Junior Parliament Session will be officially opened by President Mnangagwa on 8 July 2026 at the Parliament of Zimbabwe.
