Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has proposed significant changes to the structure of domestic football, urging the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to increase its number of participating teams from 18 to 20 and to support the creation of a National First Division.
In a formal communication addressed to the PSL, ZIFA said the expansion would help strengthen the overall football ecosystem by offering a broader and more competitive platform for player growth, coaching development, and administrative exposure.
The association also revealed plans to conduct wide-ranging consultations on the formation of a National First Division League, which would serve as a direct feeder system to the top-flight league.
According to ZIFA, the move aims to enhance talent identification and provide a more structured pathway for clubs seeking promotion into the PSL.
