Tinotenda Hove – Social media personality Mmatigari has blamed the late former President Robert Mugabe for not properly mentoring or disciplining his sons, saying this has contributed to their repeated run-ins with the law.
His remarks came after Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of the former president, was arrested in South Africa on Thursday.
The 28-year-old was taken into custody following the shooting of a 23-year-old man, believed to be a gardener, who sustained injuries. Police investigating the Hyde Park residence where Mugabe was staying recovered bullet cartridges but no firearm.
Mmatigari pointed out that the Mugabe sons have been involved in multiple incidents over the years. “Robert Mugabe Jr has been arrested several times in Zimbabwe for drugs and violent behaviour, while Chatunga is also under investigation for alleged violence against security guards in Mazowe,” he said.
He added that during Mugabe’s presidency, the brothers were reportedly removed from Dubai for breaking the law there.
Mmatigari said:
“While Mugabe was fighting sanctions and trying to navigate Zimbabwe through a heavy-handed fight with powerful Western countries, he neglected mentoring and disciplining his male children. They really lacked firm guidance at home. How do we know? We know because Chatunga was involved in naughty scrapes throughout high school, such as stealing exam papers and so on, leading to his expulsion from St George’s College. Mugabe himself spoke about this sometimes, nicknaming Chatunga the Undertaker for getting ‘U’ grades. Mugabe was a tough hand, across the board, locally and internationally, except at home. And his sons seem to be competing to embarrass in his death.”
Mmatigari also said the brothers lacked personal discipline both at home and at school. He explained:
“They weren’t disciplined at home. They also lack self-discipline – that notion, the sixth sense, the intuition that controls you personally and stops you from doing certain things that are wrong as a member of society. I am talking about that sense to say even though I may have a gun, I can’t just pull the trigger on someone and not face consequences because life is not a Hollywood movie.
Because they didn’t get discipline at school and at home, discipline is going to find them in life. It will find them for balance – for equilibrium. You see, I have a theory, which I hope one day to refine into a mathematical equation.
My theory is that discipline in the universe is a finite quantity. Ultimately, everything else is in equilibrium – balance. Where discipline lacks, the equation won’t balance out. So at some point, discipline will on its own pursue and find unbalanced matter, people or whatever to bring out an equilibrium.”
Meanwhile, on Thursday night, divers were dispatched to the Mugabe residence in Johannesburg to search for the firearm allegedly used in the gardener’s shooting
