Tinotenda Hove – Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC) has blasted President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s decision to award civil servants a US$150 bonus, describing it as “a slap in the face” to struggling government employees who continue to endure harsh economic conditions.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday titled “A Call for Fairness: Civil Servants Deserve Better,” the movement said the so-called bonus was an insult rather than a reward.

“While we acknowledge the announcement of a bonus for civil servants, we cannot help but feel that it’s a mere token. $150, split into two installments, is a paltry sum for those who toil tirelessly to serve our nation,” read part of the statement.

The party questioned the fairness of what it called a deeply unequal system that rewards political elites at the expense of ordinary workers.

“We question the fairness of a system where civil servants struggle to make ends meet, while their counterparts enjoy luxuries like cars worth $250,000 and fuel allowances of $150,000,” the statement continued.

FFC accused the government of showing contempt for public workers who are the backbone of the nation’s service delivery.

“As the voice of the voiceless, we say: this is not enough. Civil servants deserve better. They are not slaves, but dedicated public servants who deserve a living wage and fair benefits,” said the movement.

The party went on to demand an urgent revision of the bonus structure and overall remuneration for public workers, warning that continued neglect could lead to widespread discontent.

“We demand a revision of the bonus structure and benefits for civil servants. It’s time to recognize their hard work and dedication,” FFC said.

The statement concluded with a rallying call for justice and fairness: “#WeMove for a fairer system. #BonusJustice for all civil servants. #FFC stands with our public servants.”

FFC’s remarks come amid growing frustration among civil servants who have long accused the Mnangagwa administration of failing to provide meaningful salaries in the face of rising inflation and the escalating cost of living.
