By A Correspondent – A 36-year-old police officer was allegedly shot dead by her husband in Hopley, Harare, on Sunday before the man turned the gun on himself.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the death of Sergeant Dzanwa Portia, who was allegedly shot once in the head by her husband, Pharaoh Dombodzvuku, 52, on August 16, 2026.

According to the police, Dombodzvuku allegedly used a CZ pistol in the shooting before turning the firearm on himself.
“After allegedly shooting his wife, the husband reportedly shot himself on the head using the same pistol,” the ZRP said.

Dombodzvuku survived the shooting and was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under police guard.

Police said he remains in a critical condition.
The firearm allegedly used in the incident has since been recovered, while detectives are conducting investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“The police have since recovered the CZ pistol allegedly used in the shooting and are conducting comprehensive investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the ZRP said.
