Tinotenda Hove – Concerns are mounting over the health of detained activist Godfrey Karembera, widely known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, whose condition has reportedly worsened while in custody. Sources say the 47-year-old opposition supporter is seriously ill and being denied access to specialist medical treatment.
Insiders within the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) revealed that Karembera began experiencing urinary complications that have now escalated to complete urinary retention. Despite repeated pleas for urgent medical intervention, prison authorities have allegedly refused to transfer him to a private facility.
Karembera was allegedly abducted from his home, tortured, and later abandoned at a police station, where he was accused of distributing flyers linked to anti-government protests organized by war veteran Blessed Geza.
Human rights organizations have condemned the treatment of the activist, calling on authorities to prioritize his health and uphold the country’s commitment to humane detention standards.
