Tinotenda Hove – President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s latest pledge to tackle poverty has sparked criticism from sections of the public, with many questioning why millions of Zimbabweans continue to struggle despite years of similar commitments.
In a recent statement, Mnangagwa said, “On its part my Government, will accelerate the implementation of people-centred decisions and resolutions, focused on lifting many out of poverty into a better quality of life.”
The remarks have generated debate, with critics arguing that repeated promises have not been matched by meaningful improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
They point to the high cost of living, unemployment, and challenges in accessing quality public services as evidence that many households remain under economic pressure.
Some citizens say they are growing frustrated with what they describe as recurring pledges without sufficient visible progress, insisting that the government should prioritise practical measures that create jobs, stabilise the economy and improve living standards.
While Mnangagwa says his administration will accelerate people-centred policies, critics maintain that Zimbabweans will judge the government on tangible results rather than public declarations, arguing that lasting improvements in livelihoods are needed to restore public confidence.
