Tinotenda Hove- A Beitbridge police detective and a nurse based in the same town appeared in court today following the seizure of drugs valued at US$5,000.
Detective Constable John Mashoko, 37, attached to CID Drugs and Narcotics, and Tawanda Kumbirai, 27, a nurse at Beitbridge District Hospital, were arrested on Sunday morning.
Officers intercepted the pair at around 4am as they were leaving Buffalo Lodge.
A search of their vehicle boot uncovered 25 cobs of dagga weighing about 40kg, along with 200 bottles of Broncleer cough syrup. Each bottle was 100ml, bringing the total to 20 litres of the substance.
According to police, a team from PGHQ led by Assistant Inspector Padzakashamba acted on a tip-off. Investigations revealed that the consignment was allegedly intended for transportation and distribution in Harare.
