Tinotenda Hove- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived at the National Heroes Acre to preside over the burial of the late National Hero, Major General Richard Ruwondo.[Retired]

The President was received by senior government officials, service chiefs and members of the Ruwondo family before proceeding to the graveside ceremony.

Major General Ruwondo was conferred National Hero status in recognition of his service to the country. Tributes have poured in from across the security sector and government, describing him as a dedicated officer who served Zimbabwe with distinction.

His death has, however, sparked debate and concern. Questions have been raised around the circumstances leading to his passing, with some calling for clarity from authorities.

Analysts and citizens have also noted a growing pattern of senior military officers passing on in recent weeks, with many describing the trend as “worrisome” given the experience and institutional memory being lost.

The burial at the National Heroes Acre brings to a close the official state proceedings to honor Major General Ruwondo’s life and service to the nation.
