Tinotenda Hove – The Action Democratic Movement (ADM) has issued a bold and reflective statement on Zimbabwe’s worsening socio-economic crisis, with party leader Alice Nyamande urging citizens to reclaim unity, dignity and national purpose.
In her address on Sunday, Nyamande said the nation had reached a decisive moment. “Today, we stand at a crossroads in our nation’s journey. We feel the weight of our past, the pressure of our present, and the uncertainty of tomorrow,” she said. Despite the challenges, she stressed that “the spirit of Zimbabwe lives in her people.”
Nyamande paid tribute to past generations who fought for the country’s liberation, highlighting that the aim of their struggle went far beyond political independence. “Their struggle was not only for independence, but for justice, equality, and opportunity for every child born on this soil,” she said. She warned that forgetting those ideals would “betray their blood,” while remembering them would “light the way forward.”
Addressing communities who feel neglected or disempowered, Nyamande delivered a message of affirmation: “To those who feel forgotten, unheard, or pushed to the margins, I say this: you matter, your voice matters, and your future matters.” She added that no hardship or system could erase the worth of any Zimbabwean.
Nyamande emphasised that Zimbabwe’s crisis was rooted in leadership failures, stating that true leaders are defined not by force or privilege, but by integrity. “True leadership is not found in fear, wealth, or force — it is found in service, in compassion, in accountability, and in love for one’s people,” she said. “Power without conscience cannot build a nation. Wealth without justice cannot feed a future.”
She called for national courage, unity and resilience, urging citizens to resist division and despair. “Let us not allow anger to divide us, but let truth awaken us. Let us not choose violence, but courage. Let us not surrender to despair, but rise with determination.”
Nyamande said the ADM remained committed to restoring dignity and opportunity for all Zimbabweans. She outlined the party’s priorities, including protecting the vulnerable, empowering the youth, and ensuring that national resources benefit everyone. “Our mission is clear: to restore dignity to the ordinary citizen, to create opportunity for the youth, to protect the vulnerable, to unite our diverse voices into one national strength, to rebuild a Zimbabwe that works for everyone, not just a few.”
The ADM leader described Zimbabwe’s struggle as one that requires collective focus and mental transformation rather than confrontation. “This is not a war of weapons, but a revolution of minds,” she said. “It is not a call for chaos, but a call for conscience. It is not about revenge, but restoration.”
Nyamande closed her statement with a rallying call rooted in national history and pride. She urged Zimbabweans to remember their strength and unity: “Let the words ‘We were once warriors’ remind us that our greatest power has always been unity, discipline, and purpose.” She added that the true battleground is the future, and the weapon needed is “vision.”
