Tinotenda Hove- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has left the National Heroes Acre following the burial of national hero Victor Matemadanda, where he led the official send-off ceremony.

Senior government officials, members of the security forces, and mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the former liberation war fighter, whose contributions extended from Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle into the post-independence era.

The burial was conducted with full military honours, bringing the state funeral proceedings to a close.

However, Matemadanda’s passing has continued to attract controversy, with lingering questions surrounding allegations that he was poisoned in 2020, claims that have remained a subject of public debate.

His burial also comes at a politically charged moment, as tensions continue to rise over the contentious Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill. The proposed legislation has sparked heated debate for its reported aim of extending President Mnangagwa’s stay in office beyond 2028, a move critics argue could deepen political divisions in the country.
