Harare – A high-level delegation from Cheonan City, South Korea, is in Harare to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the twinning agreement between the two municipalities, with officials participating in a tree-planting ceremony and a handover of books to city libraries.

The delegation is led by Kim Seok-pil, Acting Mayor of Cheonan City, and includes Kim Cheong-su, Head of the Business Support Division; Kim Dae-hyun, Executive Secretary to the Acting Mayor; and Oh Su-min, Officer in charge of International Exchange.

According to a statement released by Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume on Wednesday, the visit commemorates the formalization of the sister city relationship, which was signed in 2016.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the visiting delegation made a donation of books to the City of Harare’s library services. The contribution aims to bolster educational resources available to residents.

In a symbolic gesture to mark the decade-long partnership, Harare and Cheonan officials took part in a tree-planting exercise. They were joined by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Park Jar Kyung.

Mayor Mafume stated that the initiative highlights the strong partnership between the two cities while promoting environmental sustainability. The visit underscores ongoing international cooperation between Harare and its Asian counterpart as both municipalities explore avenues for future collaboration.
