Tinotenda Hove – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of eight Roman Catholic congregants in Hwange on Saturday morning.

Police said the victims were travelling in a commuter omnibus after attending an overnight prayer gathering when the vehicle veered off Deka Bridge along Deka Road.

The fatal crash happened at approximately 7am. Authorities revealed that there were 13 passengers on board the kombi at the time of the accident.

In a statement, the ZRP said: “The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident at Deka Bridge along Deka Road, Hwange. Eight Roman Catholic members died when their kombi plunged into the bridge as they were coming from night prayers.”

Police added: “The accident occurred on 23/05/26 at 0700 hours. The vehicle had 13 occupants. More details to be released soon.”
Investigations into the cause of the accident are still underway.
