Tinotenda Hove – A Silobela man was fatally stabbed on Saturday evening by a friend during a dispute over a borrowed flashlight.

Joseph Dube, 19, reportedly lost his life after being attacked by Life Matare, 22, at Makende Business Centre around 8:30pm while drinking beer with Dube’s brother, Pride Dube, 23.

Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, saying Matare has since been arrested.

Police said the argument began when Dube confronted Matare about failing to return a flashlight he had borrowed the previous day. The disagreement escalated, with Matare allegedly drawing a homemade knife from his waistband and stabbing Dube multiple times across his body.

Inspector Mahoko highlighted the grim irony that the attack occurred less than 24 hours after police held an anti-crime awareness program in the area.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances behind the fatal altercation.
