Bindura – The Mutapa Investment Fund’s flagship mining asset, Mutapa Gold Resources, has reinforced its commitment to community development with the commissioning of the Masembura Water Pipeline Project, a US$3 million infrastructure investment set to transform water supply in Mashonaland Central.

The project was officially unveiled on 21 September 2026 by Christopher Magomo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central, who praised the initiative as a testament to the province’s growing capital investment portfolio.

“We are delighted that the water supply will improve. And also the cost of purifying the water will be reduced, because contamination will turn really low. It’s one of my capital investment projects that are taking shape in the province,” Magomo said during the commissioning ceremony.

Funded by Mutapa Gold Resources in partnership with Bindura Municipality, the scheme features a 500m³ balancing tank, an 18km pipeline serving the mining operation, and a 22.1km pipeline to the Bindura Municipality Water Treatment Plant. ZINWA Enterprises (Private) Limited served as contractor.

Mutapa Gold Resources, Zimbabwe’s largest gold producer operating under the Mutapa Investment Fund, has positioned the pipeline as part of its broader community investment programme.

Chief Executive Officer Patrick Maseva-Shayawabaya has consistently emphasised that the company’s bulk infrastructure is designed to benefit surrounding communities alongside mining operations.

“The biggest beneficiaries of this project will be the community… We are engaging ZINWA and ZETDC to ensure the infrastructure has built-in capacity so communities around us can also tap into it,” Maseva-Shayawabaya said. “We can achieve a lot together rather than as individuals.”

The water project adds to Mutapa Gold Resources’ extensive portfolio of community investments across Mashonaland Central and beyond. These include development of the Bindura Hospital Maternity Ward, rehabilitation works at Shamva Hospital, and support for three medical institutions—Loreto Mission, Shamva and Bindura Hospitals—through its inaugural Charity Golf Day, which raised US$100,000.

In Rushinga District, the company partnered with the Zimbabwe Defence Forces to double Mubvundudzi Secondary School’s enrolment capacity from 220 to over 400 learners through construction of a new classroom block, and donated 10 computers following electrification of the school.

Mutapa Gold Resources has also partnered with the Zimbabwe School of Mines to train 315 artisanal and small-scale miners, supporting education, community well-being and sustainable livelihoods under its corporate social responsibility pillars.

The Masembura Water Pipeline Project stands as the latest example of how the Mutapa Investment Fund’s strategic investments are delivering tangible benefits to Zimbabwean communities.
