Tinotenda Hove – A prisoner serving a 45-year sentence for armed robbery and rape was recaptured shortly after a bold escape attempt from the Harare Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Itai Madhongo, 33, stabbed a prison officer, stole his uniform, and fled the court premises. He was later found disguised in the stolen uniform while walking through the corridors of the Magistrates’ offices.

The incident underscores ongoing security concerns at the court, but rapid response by police and prison officials ensured Madhongo was apprehended before he could exit the building.
