Tinotenda Hove – Panashe Nyakwima, a student at the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), has been arrested after allegedly stealing a pistol from his landlord and using it to commit an armed robbery.

Investigations reveal that Nyakwima reportedly stormed into a pharmacy in Harare armed with the stolen gun, demanding cash from terrified workers. He then used part of the stolen money to buy groceries and other items for his girlfriend.

The incident has shocked both the university community and the public, as Nyakwima was described by those who knew him as a “quiet and promising” student.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest, saying investigations are ongoing.

“The suspect has been taken into custody, and further inquiries are being conducted,” said the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Many have expressed disbelief at how a university student’s desire to impress a lover could drive him to crime, turning what was once a bright academic future into a cautionary tale.
