Tinotenda Hove – A 37-year-old self-proclaimed prophet from Gokwe, Clever Givemore Mujeyi, has been sentenced to an effective five years in prison after being convicted of having sexual relations with a minor.

Mujeyi was found guilty by the Gokwe Magistrates’ Court on multiple counts involving a 16-year-old girl. The court heard that in November 2025, Mujeyi approached the teenager at her home in Chief Nemangwe area, Gokwe South, where he initiated an inappropriate relationship.

Afterwards, the pair moved to Hwedza, where they lived together while pretending to be husband and wife. The court further heard that another incident occurred on December 7, 2025, in Battlefields.

The case came to light after Mujeyi allegedly abandoned the minor in Battlefields before fleeing with the wife of one of his congregants, prompting a report to the authorities.
In passing sentence, the magistrate handed Mujeyi a six-year prison term, with one year suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. This leaves him to serve an effective five years behind bars.

The case has sparked outrage, with calls for religious leaders to be held accountable and for greater protection of minors from abuse disguised as spiritual authority.
