Tinotenda Hove- Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again drawn public attention after sharing photographs of himself with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, raising fresh questions about his growing access to influential political figures across the region.

Chivayo, who has frequently been linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and has been described by critics as one of the Zimbabwean leader’s closest associates, posted the images on social media following his visit to Tanzania.

In his post, Chivayo appeared to celebrate the encounter, writing: “KARIBU TANZANIA…”
He continued: “It’s always a pleasure catching up with my beloved Mother Her Excellency MAMA SAMIA SULUHU HASSAN. Slowly but surely I’m learning Swahili.”
He concluded the message by saying: “Nakupenda mama yangu mrembo. Asante sana.”

The post quickly generated debate online, with critics questioning the nature of Chivayo’s relationship with senior political leaders in the region and whether such public displays reinforce concerns over the influence wielded by politically connected businessmen.

Chivayo has remained a divisive figure in Zimbabwe due to his involvement in a number of high-profile government-linked contracts that have attracted sustained public scrutiny. His critics argue that his repeated appearances alongside influential leaders project an image of privilege and political protection at a time when many ordinary citizens continue to face economic hardship.

Although the Tanzanian President’s office has not commented on the meeting, Chivayo’s social media post has fueled speculation over the purpose of the engagement and whether it related to business or was simply a courtesy meeting.

For many observers, the photographs are likely to deepen existing concerns about transparency and accountability surrounding politically exposed business figures, particularly those perceived to enjoy close ties to powerful governments.
