Tinotenda Hove – The Ministry of Health and Child Care has raised alarm over a surge in malaria cases, with more than 1,100 infections and two deaths recorded in just one week.
According to the Ministry’s Weekly Disease Report for the week ending 26 October 2025, a total of 1,194 malaria cases and two deaths were reported nationwide.
The fatalities occurred in Mazowe District in Mashonaland Central Province and Nyanga District in Manicaland Province. The report revealed that 178 cases (14.9%) were among children under the age of five, a group particularly vulnerable to malaria.
The provinces most affected were Mashonaland Central, which recorded 349 cases, and Manicaland, which reported 295 cases.
Cumulatively, Zimbabwe has now recorded 152,950 malaria cases and 420 deaths since the beginning of the year, highlighting the persistent threat the disease poses in malaria-prone regions.
Health authorities have urged communities, especially in high-risk areas, to intensify preventive measures such as sleeping under treated mosquito nets and seeking prompt medical attention for symptoms.
