Harare– Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has issued a rallying call to his supporters, stating that a “solid rollout plan with a clear timeline” is in place as he intensifies his political comeback under the banner of “The New” movement.
In a statement posted on social media on Wednesday, Chamisa acknowledged the economic hardships and political anxieties felt by citizens. “Fellow citizens, I understand your pain, your worries, and your anxieties. Together, we carry this burden, but also the hope and the answer,” he wrote.
Chamisa assured his followers that a defined strategy is being finalized. “We have a solid rollout plan with a clear timeline, a defined path forward. We‘re putting ducks in a row. Out of this, a path is forming,” the post stated. He concluded with a call to action, urging citizens to “stand prepared” for a coming role in his political project, using the hashtags #TheNew and #WeDemandOurVoice .
The message comes just days after Chamisa formally announced his return to frontline politics following a nearly two-year hiatus. He recently unveiled “Agenda 2026,” a citizen-driven framework aimed at “resetting Zimbabwe,” which he describes not as a political party, but as a broad-based citizens’ movement . He has framed the initiative as a necessity to address a “governance crisis” stemming from disputed elections and state capture .
Chamisa’s re-entry into the political arena has escalated tensions within the opposition. His recent declaration that Zimbabwe has “no constitution to defend” because it has been “shredded” by the ruling ZANU-PF party has drawn sharp criticism from former allies . Prominent opposition figures within the Defend the Constitution Platform, including Tendai Biti and Jameson Timba, have accused Chamisa of undermining legal efforts to resist constitutional amendments, particularly those related to extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure .
Observers note that the rift highlights deep strategic divisions within the opposition, with Chamisa advocating for a focus on broad citizen engagement and electoral legitimacy, while others prioritize immediate legal battles against constitutional changes in Parliament .
Chamisa’s latest call for his supporters to “get ready” signals an acceleration of his Agenda 2026 campaign. Sources close to the former CCC leader have indicated that his team has been quietly engaging communities in preparation for forming a new political movement aimed at challenging ZANU-PF’s dominance in the next electoral cycle .
