Sports Correspondent -Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Hon. Emily Jesaya, has extended financial support to the national women’s football team, with each member of the squad receiving a US$2,700 bonus.
The assistance was delivered on behalf of the Government as the Zimbabwe women’s national football team continue their campaign in South Africa at the 2026 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
Hon. Jesaya handed over the funds ahead of Sunday’s Group C encounter against Zambia women’s national football team, which ended in a goalless stalemate.
The draw ensured Zimbabwe remained second in their group, strengthening their push for a semi-final berth.
The financial incentive is expected to lift morale within the camp as the team intensifies preparations for the decisive stages of the tournament.
Under the competition rules, the winners of each of the three groups will qualify automatically for the semi-finals, alongside the best-performing runner-up.
Due to Group C having only three teams, results recorded against the bottom-placed sides in Groups A and B will not be considered when determining the best runner-up.
