Tinotenda Hove – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed Senegal head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw a five-match suspension following incidents that occurred during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, CAF’s Disciplinary Board found Thiaw guilty of breaching principles of fair play and integrity, stating that his conduct brought the game into disrepute. He was also slapped with a fine of US$100,000.

Two Senegalese players, Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr, were each suspended for two matches after being found guilty of unsporting behaviour towards the match officials.

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) was heavily penalised, receiving a US$300,000 fine for the misconduct of its supporters, along with another US$300,000 for the unsporting conduct of players and technical staff. An additional US$15,000 fine was imposed for multiple cautions.

Morocco were not spared either. Captain Achraf Hakimi was handed a two-match suspension, while Ismaël Saibari received a three-match ban and was fined US$100,000.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) was fined US$315,000 for several violations, including interference with VAR operations, inappropriate behaviour by ball boys, and the use of laser pointers by supporters.

CAF also dismissed a protest lodged by Morocco against Senegal over alleged regulatory breaches during the final, effectively bringing the disciplinary proceedings to an end.
