Sports Correspondent – Zimbabwean football has been plunged into mourning following the death of former Warriors coach and renowned youth football mentor Wieslaw Grabowski.
Grabowski, who founded and coached Darryn T Africa United, passed away in Poland on Wednesday after suffering heart-related complications.

Originally from Poland, Grabowski dedicated decades to identifying and grooming young footballers in Zimbabwe, establishing himself as one of the country’s most respected football development figures. His work at Darryn T Africa United produced several players who later enjoyed successful domestic and international careers.

Some of the notable footballers who emerged under his guidance include former Warriors captain Norman Mapeza, Lloyd Chitembwe, Edelbert Dinha, Gift Muzadzi, Alois Bunjira and Stewart Murisa.

His influence extended beyond Zimbabwe’s borders as he helped several local players secure opportunities in European football. Among those who benefited from his efforts were Shingi Kaondera, Dickson Choto, Musareka Jenitala, Costa Nhamoinesu and Takesure Chinyama.

Chinyama went on to make history in 2009 by becoming the first non-European player to finish as the top scorer in Poland’s top-flight league.
Grabowski also contributed to Zimbabwe’s junior national teams, where he played an important role in developing young talent and strengthening grassroots football.

Messages of condolence have continued to pour in from across the football community, with many remembering Grabowski for the lasting impact he made on Zimbabwean football through the generations of players he mentored.
