Tinotenda Hove- A routine night patrol in Emakhandeni, Bulawayo, ended in tragedy early Friday when a neighbourhood watch member was gunned down by an unidentified suspect.
State media reports that the victim, Godfrey Muzanenhamo, was on patrol with colleagues shortly after midnight when they noticed a group of men emerging from a thicket.
The patrol team approached them to ask where they were headed, but one of the suspects allegedly responded by pulling out a gun and shooting Muzanenhamo once in the head at close range.
He was immediately taken to Mpilo Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
Muzanenhamo is survived by his daughter, Nicole Muzanenhamo, a member of the Zimbabwe Gems netball team who represented the nation at the 2023 Netball World Cup in England.
