Tinotenda Hove – Kuwadzana West MP Hon Johnson Matambo has publicly rejected Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), warning that Parliament must not amend the Constitution to benefit politicians.
In a statement on Tuesday, Matambo said he stands with ordinary Zimbabweans bearing the brunt of economic hardship and political instability.
“No to CAB3. We cannot be judges in our own case,” Matambo declared.
His stance comes as debate over CAB3 intensifies. Opposition MPs and civil society groups argue the Bill threatens democratic principles and weakens constitutional governance.
Chiredzi Central MP Ropafadzo Makumire also opposed the Bill, saying MPs must protect citizens, not political interests.
“Today CAB3 gets its Second Reading and debate begins. Our duty is clear: defend the people’s interests and honour the mandate they gave us. We will not betray the masses,” Makumire said.
The Bill continues to split opinion nationwide. Critics warn the changes will erode public trust in Parliament and reduce accountability.
On Tuesday, Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi tabled CAB3 for its First Reading, kicking off the legislative process. The Second Reading and debate are set for today.
