Tinotenda Hove – Citizens leader Nelson Chamisa has strongly condemned Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), describing it as a dangerous and selfish political project that threatens Zimbabwe’s democratic future.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Chamisa accused those backing the constitutional amendment of ignoring the will of ordinary citizens while pushing what he called a flawed and wasteful agenda.

“Zimbabwe needs a citizens’ government,” said Chamisa.

“There can be no legitimate government without the consent of #WeTheCitizens who are governed.”

The opposition leader argued that CAB3 serves political interests rather than national development, warning that the proposed changes could have serious long-term consequences for the country.

“There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently what is fundamentally wrong. CAB3 is the wrong move, a misguided initiative and a selfish national mistake,” he said.

“Far from delivering value, it is an absolute waste of time and resources.”
Chamisa further warned that those promoting the amendment could eventually face political backlash from citizens angered by attempts to alter constitutional provisions for personal or political gain.

“Its consequences will be severe and may ultimately consume those who conceived and championed it,” he said.

He also rejected both the amendment process and its expected outcomes, claiming they were being manipulated from the start.
“#WeTheCitizens reject CAB3, all its flawed processes and choreographed outcomes. This is the new front of the struggle for a New Great Zimbabwe.”

Chamisa concluded his message by calling on Zimbabweans to unite and organise around what he described as a citizen-led vision for the country’s future.

“The future belongs to organized citizens. We organize. We engage. We build. Come, let us reason together.”

CAB3 has generated heated political debate in Zimbabwe, with critics alleging that the proposed amendment seeks to extend the term of office of President Emmerson Mnangagwa beyond 2028.
